Research Projects
2021 - 2022
Bee Characterization:
Bees are irreplaceable in the relationship between all living things in the forest. We are characterizing and typifying the native bee species from which we will create a field guide and a complete collection of these populations that will be available to specialists and study centers.
We recently found a nest of Melipona nigrescens, a native and endemic social bee species for which there is very little information for Valle del Cauca.

Characterization of Birds:
In Madhu we have recorded 327 species of birds among which we find the Crested Eagle Spizaetus isidori , an endangered species that possibly nests in the forests protected by Madhu, part of our work with the birds is to find this nest.

Characterization of Mammals:
The installation of camera traps allows us to keep constant reports of large terrestrial mammals that are very unlikely to be recorded live.

Characterization of Herpetos:
Knowing and recording these important bioindicators (reptiles and amphibians) of restricted distribution allows us to have another qualification factor of the conservation status of the forests of the Madhu Nature Reserve.

Orchid Listing
Their complexity, colorfulness and ecological interactions with pollinators make them of great environmental interest. A list of these plants is necessary to understand the complexity of our forests.

In order to raise resources for research, conservation and restoration of the Madhú Nature Reserve, the Madhú Foundation was created.
